Pros and Cons of Cordless Weed Eaters

Cordless grass trimmers are technically quite similar to conventional gas or electric versions, just there are a few differences. The primary one is that a cordless weed eater runs on electricity, and information technology doesn't require a power cable to be plugged in. It runs on batteries lone, which might exist modular or integrated depending on the model.

Pros:

  • The best cordless grass trimmers review well for a reason: they're convenient. A huge pro of the style is that yous don't need to rely on gas. That means no more trips to the station to fill upward, and no demand to mix gas and oil to the right pct. In that location are no noxious fumes considering it doesn't rely on internal combustion to run. They don't crave as much routine maintenance or cleaning as a gas powered version.
  • Another great reward is the portability. Most electrical cordless weed trimmers are light in weight, and they aren't restricted by an electric plug, and so you can take them anywhere in the yard.
  • Cordless bombardment grass trimmers aren't nearly as loud. In fact, most models don't require ear protection during use, and they don't vibrate as much, so information technology's easier on your torso to operate.

Cons:

  • Unless you cull a loftier plenty voltage model, you might not accept as much power as you would with a gas powered grass trimmer. What's more, battery-powered weed eaters can only run as long as the battery has a charge. When it runs out, you have to put information technology back on the charger for a while.

In that location are a few other first-class convenience features too. Some other big proper noun in the cordless backyard tool business, GreenWorks has a very capable line of trimmers, and of that line, I retrieve this 40-volt unit (entitle G-MAX) is i of the very best. It'southward a capable and powerful trimmer with a lot of user-friendly features and fantastic upside.

It has a number of keen features that make information technology stand out. First and foremost is the scope shaft. Too many trimmers are 'one size fits all.' Every bit a taller guy, I appreciate the power to adjust the length of the shaft; information technology makes trimming much easier. The length is up to 67 inches.

It as well features the pivoting head, which quickly and easily transforms this from a grass trimmer to an edger, perfect for defining the edge of your driveway or getting weeds in tough to attain spots. It even has a handy wheel that allows you to residual information technology on the ground while edging.

Toro Powerplex

Toro Powerplex

iii. Toro Powerplex: Powerful and Cordless

If you're finding that too many of the cordless electric weed trimmers lack ability, y'all should definitely accept a await at this powerful choice from Toro.

Toro isn't as big a proper noun every bit some of the others reviewed hither, but that doesn't mean they lack a reputation. Toro is a proper noun to turn to for power, efficiency, and performance. This PowerPlex trimmer is no exception to that dominion, and it has every bit much juice as any other weed eater reviewed here today.

It features forty volts in a lithium-ion battery pack. That'due south double the power of most standard trimmers you lot'll find, which rarely exceed 20V. Tough weeds don't stand up a chance.

Though the battery is sleek, information technology is a bigger unit of measurement and heavier than many others. Luckily, this weed eater is nicely balanced and feels slap-up and maneuverable in apply. The torso and construction are of such high quality that you lot experience very little vibration, despite the actress juice.

Information technology features variable speed control, and you can increase or decrease your RPMs simply by feathering the trigger while you work. The assistance handle tin be moved up or downwardly the trimmer shaft without the use of tools. Depending on how much you're gunning it, you should get roughly 45 minutes of employ per accuse.

The head is cast aluminum, giving it a lot of durability, and the head automobile feeds, and then you don't have to bump it on the basis to get more string.

If you're concerned nearly ability, Toro is ane of the best cordless grass trimmers around, with splendid client reviews to kick.

Pros:

  • Information technology's powerful enough to chew through tough weeds and tall grass
  • Long battery life ways 45 minutes of use

Core: pro-quality, 'gasless' grass trimmer, long battery life

Cadre: pro-quality, 'gasless' grass trimmer, long bombardment life

four. Cadre: 'Gasless' and Long Bombardment Life

Core is some other brand you might be less familiar with, and that's because they aren't always found in your typical garden shop. This CGT400 is 1 of my favourite electric string trimmers because it'southward really built to take a chirapsia.

I'd authorize them equally a more than professional-grade cordless weed trimmer, and they're built to last in several means.

This trimmer has two modes. The first is meant for standard grass trimming, and it has the head spinning at 7,000 RPM. This allows you to cut through tall grass like there's no tomorrow, but information technology eats up the battery power slightly faster. The other mode runs at 5,000 RPM but offers more torque. This is better for conserving bombardment life and ripping out tough weeds like thistles.

The power prison cell on this trimmer is top of the course, offering upwards to seventy minutes of continuous utilise. If you have a larger lawn or garden space and you lot need a super long-lasting bombardment pack, this is absolutely the pick to become for.

The head is a 'dual line' version, meaning you lot feed in two different spools. The line is fed in the standard 'bump' method, and the caput is really well built. It comes with a v-year warranty for residential employ, and a two twelvemonth for commercial. That'due south phenomenal coverage.

With its CORE electrical engine engineering science, this trimmer offers excellent power efficiency and torque, making it ane of the all-time cordless garden trimmers for both personal and commercial use.

Pros:

  • Top of the line battery life
  • Durable build and long warranty span
  • Dual power fashion to conserve battery life

Cons:

  • It'southward expensive compared to bigger brand alternatives

What Nearly Bombardment Life and Accessories?

If you're planning to replace a gas-powered trimmer, I'd say you should be aware of the battery life of these things. They typically last between 30 and 60 minutes of continuous use, and the batteries will take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to accuse up (depending on if you have a fast charger or not).

For that reason (and specially if you lot're using a trimmer for commercial utilize), I'd invest in an extra bombardment or two, then yous don't have to wait.

Be enlightened that lithium-ion batteries will slowly discharge, especially if left on the device they're intended to power (even if it's off). To make information technology last longer, remove information technology from the trimmer when non in utilise and bring it inside. If you haven't charged the battery in a couple of weeks, you'll need to charge information technology up again. Luckily, lithium-ion batteries don't take a 'memory.'

Uniform Accessories

All of the systems reviewed above take batteries that are compatible with other cordless devices, like leafage blowers. I'chiliad non going to review any of those peripherals in this commodity, but you lot might want to practise a bit of research and supplant all your garden maintenance tools at in one case.

In any event, when buying a cordless weed trimmer, your all-time bet is to read lots of personal customer reviews and get a experience for what to expect. Thanks for reading, good luck!

I started out using Black & Decker 20 V weed Wacker and after purchasing 3 models in the past 3 years I can tell you they are for light duty only.

Greenworks 40V with a iv amp hour battery is a beast and the motor is guaranteed for 4 years. The difference between B&D and the Greenworks is where the motor is placed and the materials used to transfer the power to the cutting head. B&D motor is at the cutting caput and they use inexpensive plastic parts. Greenworks motor is in the handle so it does not suck up grit and droppings while cutting. They also use superior parts to transfer power to the cutting head. If you lot don't similar their cutting head, it can be replaced hands and information technology's made so that it cam become many other tools by just buying accessories. Do your homework earlier any purchase.

I got a threescore volt snapper at walmart.

Jim Lapetina on May 23, 2017:

I take a model - that needs no bump to get line but you have to close off the weeder and look ii seconds then ane/4 of inch volition come out. So every time I stop the weeded information technology will extend the line. could that exist right?

Francis P Canali on May 02, 2017:

Does the Greenworks 21332-GMax have one or ii strings and practice you accept to bump head to feed line? Thank you

Bryon on Oct 20, 2016:

Black and Decker cordless 20V trimmer (model#LST300) broke when I bumped the trimmer on the basis. I bought a replacement and the 2nd trimmer broke. These trimmers cannot exist fixed and they break besides easily. The 40V model has a similar design and might break only equally easily. Afterward my bad experience with 20V model breakage, I don't want to purchase the more expensive model with the similar fragile design.

How like shooting fish in a barrel to add new cord?

Daren on June 03, 2016:

Aren't there cordless electrical trimmers that incorporate regeneration? For example, blueprint a modest generator below the handle motor to either recharge the battery while in utilise or charge a split up battery next to it.

John on May 06, 2016:

A lithium battery volition not belch if left on the tool with the power off. Off means off. Please cease spreading bad information.

i. Poll should accept an "all of the higher up selection"

two. I'm not certain what it's chosen, but what virtually the type of weed eater head where y'all precut the string and just stick it in on an individual basis without a feeder arrangement? I'd swear by that one. Simple and straightforward.

OSBERT JOEL C from CHENNAI on May sixteen, 2014:
